Logan Beausoleil is the Farm Educator at Prairie Crossing Learning Farm in Grayslake, IL. The Learning Farm is part of the larger conservation community which was designed to combine responsible development, the preservation of open land, and easy commuting by rail. He joined the Learning Farm in April 2010 as Crew Leader in the Prairie Farm Corps Program, and joined full time as a Farm Educator in August 2011. He has a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Art from Augustana College, holds an Illinois teaching certification, and is currently working on his M.S. in Elementary Education at Quincy University. Logan works closely with the 5-8th grade teachers and students of the Prairie Crossing Charter School to integrate classroom learning with on-farm experiences. He also serves as an educator for the Prairie Farm Corps Program leading the educational workshops and team building activities, as well as assisting with the farm field work. Off the farm, Logan is an avid long distance runner and recently placed 55th out of 45,000 participants in the 2011 Chicago Marathon.

Eric Carlberg joined the Learning Farm in March 2009 as the Program Director. He holds a B.A. in Theology from Capital University and a M.A. in Theological Studies from Chicago Theological Seminary, completing coursework in urban ministry, non-profit leadership, and eco-justice as well as a thesis on subsistence farming in ancient Israel. Eric’s background includes 7 years experience in social services, having worked as case manager for low-income senior citizens and as supervisor of a drop in center for people suffering from homelessness and addiction. Outside of his experience in the social service sector, Eric has spent much of his life doing physical labor, restoring back-country trails, managing the wood lot and labor team at Holden Village, and leading the harvest crew at Sandhill Organics. Eric strives to create meaningful and empowering work and educational opportunities at the Learning Farm, and believes in the power of food to create community. He expanded the Montessori School of Lake Forest’s adolescent farm program, shaped the Prairie Farm Corps from its inception, and collaborated with local churches to create the Community Gleaning Project. Eric also speaks Spanish.

Zamir Mendez is a Prairie Farm Corps Crew Leader in his fourth summer working at the farm. He has continued to take on more leadership roles every year that he has come back and was a member the first year Prairie Farm Corps was established. He enjoys growing and harvesting organic vegetables. His future have been greatly influenced by working on the farm; he will be a freshman at Earlham College this fall and hopes to major in agriculture or environmental studies. In addition to farming, Zamir is passionate about photography and is an avid runner and diver. He is also fluent in Spanish and French. Today's episode is sponsored by Hearst Ranch.

Hannah Rae Murphy grew up on a small farm in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula with a large garden, sheep, chickens, pigs and the occasional turkey or goat. Now a Conservation Biology student at Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT she is involved in the college’s organic farm and is an RA of the sustainable living house (Weybridge House). Weybridge House buys and preserves food from within a 100 mile radius each summer and fall for consumption throughout the year by the house’s 18 residents and many campus community members at free dinners several times each week. Weybridge House aims to highlight the attainability of eating a delicious all-local diet even with time constraints and a budget. She is unsure of her plans for after college, but will likely attend grad school for sustainable agriculture or food studies and return to a farming community as soon as possible. Today's program has been brought to you by White Oak Pastures.

"I feel more fulfilled getting my hands dirty in the kitchen or the garden, and then getting to talk about it." -- Hannah Rae Murphy on Greenhorn Radio

Anastasia is back on Greenhorn Radio! Anastasia started her career as a seasonal agricultural worker at the age of 17 when a series of fateful events led her to the blueberry barrens of Downeast Maine. She raked berries every year for the next 8 years, and also did some apple picking, morel mushroom hunting, and tree-planting which eventually became her primary occupation. This lifestyle kept her on the road for the better part of 13 years and enabled her to become intimate with many parts of the country. She has been based out of Tucson, AZ (the city of her birth) for the past 10 years where her home has evolved into an urban, desert farm. Anastasia has just earned a degree in Rangeland Ecology and Management from the University of Arizona. She is looking forward to integrating her experiences and skills in ways that will help to produce food and other products from the land while sustaining and enhancing natural and cultural resources. This program has been sponsored by Hearst Ranch.

"People don't control the agricultural system anymore, and the only way I can see to take it back is on the grassroots level." -- Anastasia Rabin on Greenhorn Radio
