On this week's episode of Burning Down the House, host Curtis B. Wayne is joined by Elizabeth Heider, one of the chair members of the U.S. Green Building Council. Elizabeth is a "recovering architect" involved with the USGBC's LEED certification program. Hear about the LEED certification, and how it serves as a framework for architects and designers looking to green the built environment. Elizabeth and Curtis also discuss energy-efficient decisions in their respective homes, and the importance of lighting in the comfort of a space. LEED certification is controversial in some architectural circles; tune in to hear clips from past episodes opposing LEED certification, as well as Elizabeth's responses. This program has been brought to you by Fairway Market.

"LEED is not just a checklist; it's a way to communicate with one another, to communicate with clients, architects, the construction industry...it really is a tool. I like to think that it's a great way to see if you're on course, but the real objective is good architecture."

"The greenest square foot is the square foot that you don't have to build."
