    Chris Diamond, sustainibility consultant with Steven Winters, Chris helps make buildings more sustainable, buildings are taking the most energy to build and sustain, New York buildings are up for a century or more, shipping container is repurposing something that's already had a life and therefore sustainible, using virgin steel is okay when longevity is in mind, make sure you don't illuminate a room when it's not being used, energy management systems are becoming more prevelant, cut down energy consumption by turning off lights, daylight sensors, payback on energy management system takes twelve years or less, energy costs are subsidized in the United States, energy bill pays for the fuel and the infrastructure, acid rains from coal burning plants make huge coal ash piles, these ash piles are a risk and are hidden from the public, the new all glass skyscrapers aren't so bad, the materials that bond the glass together are not efficient, mass versus glass, glass coatings keep heat out, in the end glass will never perform that well, factories converted into lofts are efficient, carbon footprint of producing cement is pretty high, the composition of concrete has been changing, fly ash, connected back to the way romans made concrete with volcanic ash, climate determines energy technology, glue, in the late 1970s Germany started climate change discussions, Germany made naturally efficient cooling buildings, gadgety buildings, Seamans, control systems, Romans didn't make tall buildings, caulk guns and spray foam can help,
