Welcome to the debut of Just Food Stories! Meet your hosts, Jacquie Berger and Alison Cayne. Jacquie is the Executive Director of Just Food, a NYC nonprofit that connects farmers and communities with the resources and support they need to make fresh, healthy, locally grown food accessible to all. Alison is the founder of Haven’s Kitchen, a cooking school, specialty food shop and event space in Manhattan. On this first episode of Just Food Stories, Jacquie and Alison are talking about starting CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) programs in New York City with Paula Lukats, CSA Program Manager for Just Food, and Dawn Rizzo of Staten Island CSA. Tune into this episode to learn why CSAs bring communities together and provide stable income for farmers. How can NYC residents start a CSA program in their neighborhood through Just Food? Later, Dawn talks about her role in starting two CSAs on Staten Island, and how the idea has spread throughout the borough. How are CSAs intrinsically linked with social justice? Find out on the first episode of Just Food Stories! Thanks to our sponsor, Route 11 Potato Chips. Music by The California Honeydrops.

"You don't have to reinvent the wheel. There are 115 CSAs out there in the city, so Just Food is here to make sure you don't have to start from scratch to start your own." [6:45]

"The CSA gives the farmer a consumer base that's committed to them... the food that they're growing will have a home. It gives stability in marketing, and farmers like knowing who they are growing for." [7:45]
