Join Grace Bonney on another episode of After the Jump as she chats with acclaimed artist and illustrator Chris Silas Neal. Chris's work has been commisioned by a variety of magazines, book publishers and television. His first picture book, Over and Under the Snow, with author Kate Messner was praised for it's "stunning retro-style illustrations" (New York Times), was a 2011 New York Times's Editor's Choice and won an E.B. White Honor Award in 2012. Neal recently directed short animated videos for both Kate Spade and Anthropologie and was awarded a medal from the Society of Illustrators for his work in motion graphics. Neal exhibits drawings at various galleries and speaks at events across the country and abroad. He currently works and lives in Brooklyn and teaches Illustration at Pratt Institute. This program was sponsored by The International Culinary Center.

"When an illustrator is first starting out - most likely what they first do is replicate their heros and the work they are interested in." [17:45]

This week on the business of The Business, host Phil Colicchio is joined by Erin McKenna, Founder of Babycakes NYC - the premium gluten free baked goods brand in our nation! Babycakes NYC revolutionized sweets for those with food allergies, and continues to do so. Find out how this very personal and earnest idea turned into a successful business in a very short amount of time. Erin explains how the business found her, and what made her change her life and pursue this idea. This program was sponsored by Fairway Market.

"I've always had a need to invent and a need to start something for myself." [09:04]

"What was lacking for me and what inspired me to open Babycakes was that everything else out there was depressing as far as the experience goes. The energy at gluten-free food establishments was so low - it was dark and dank and little bit too hippie-ish. I wanted the fact that it was gluten-free to just be a perk of the bakery." [14:00]

"I've slowly been thinking about expanding - but it has to happen organically and in baby steps." [22:00]

"I'm never after riches, so I'm not afraid to spend it on things my gut tells me will be big. You can't be afraid to fail." [27:55]

Chocolate expert, author and father Clay Gordon is this week's guest on Growing Good. Clay is the author of "Discover Chocolate: The Ultimate Guide to Buying, Tasting and Enjoying Fine Chocolate", and is opening a chocolate factory right here in Bushwick, Brooklyn around the corner from the Heritage Radio Network studios. Clay also runs TheChocolateLife.com, an online community for chocophiles, and aspiring chocophiles, to explore, learn, and share. Find out about his eclectic background, including a history of hosting radio, and learn more about chocolate fondue, expiration dates, and bean sourcing. This program was sponsored by Heritage Foods USA.

"There are some people who think there's no such thing as bad chocolate, I am not one of those people. I can tell you first hand there is some pretty atrocious chocolate out there. I always call it chocolate not worth the calories."

"One of the revelations I had after writing "Discover Chocolate", is realizing it's a lot easier to pair chocolate with beer than it is chocolate with wine."

"From a parenting perspective, having something you're truly passionate about and just following through with it is one the best things you can do to encourage your children."
