    Bat Genitals & Fellatio (10:15)

    Tags:
Carol A. Butler, bat genitals, testes size, the size is related to the amount of sperm they need to produce, bat species that mate with multiple partners have the largest genitals, in some species the female stores the sperm for a while, brain power and sperm cells require a lot of metabolic energy to maintain, fellatio in bats, new research in South China on fruit bats, they used infrared recording to monitor the pairs of bats mating, in 14 of 20 matings the females performed fellatio on males, after the male mounts the females from behind she then bends over forward and began licking the shaft of his penis, the longer the female licked the longer the copulation lasted, when there is no licking the mating might be forced, what is the evolutionary purpose of this?, it seems to help maintain the male erection and increases lubrication, prolonged intercourse helps sperm transport, saliva has antibacterial properties, licking can be protective, there is very little documentation of oral genital contact outside of humans, some scientists are uncomfortable speaking about this, female participation can increase the likelihood of fertilization,
